Stop
Cruelty to Windows Since taking over as President of Sun
Glow, I cannot help but notice window treatments everywhere I go;
checking to see who made them, if they hang well, the type of valance
that was used etc.
Recently, I was at a downtown
Toronto boutique hotel and our room had many windows, all with a
blackout fabric, chain operated. I was horrified at the condition
of the window treatments: severe fraying, the bottom bar torn off on one
side, some shades with metal chain, others with plastic. We cannot
control how our product is handled by the end user but we can take steps
to reduce possibilities of misuse.
This was a difficult
configuration because the windows met at a corner. One side had a
window ledge the other did not because it connected to a sliding
door. The way the blinds were installed, one always got caught on
the window ledge of the adjacent window, tearing off the bottom
bar. The fraying on the other blind, could be caused by many
different factors, but must have been replaced, since the chain did not
match the other blinds.
In a case
like this, who should be responsible for the repairs - the hotel,
because their occupants caused the damage? the dealer, because his
configuration and installation was not optimal and contributed to the
damage?
It became clear to me, that as a manufacturer, we
really have very little control over where our product is going, whether
it is measured correctly, or installed correctly. Luckily,
it was NOT a Sun Glow Product, but it could have been.
Together,
let us end Cruelty to Windows. Call us with your questions
if difficult situations arise and watch your email for training sessions
for your sales staff and installers.
I must admit that seeing
this abuse of the window treatments was painful, but not as
painful as the opera we watched that night.

Great
Combinations The Artisan Collection is great for creating a
unique coordinated window treatment for your clients but when
combined with the Sun Glow Fabric Book, the possibilities multiply.

All
dealers and retailers that work with us, have our Sun Glow Fabric
Book. A compact 11.5" x 8" x 4" binder with carrying handles and
the feel of a handbag. It is stacked full of large swatches of all
our decorative, sunscreen, and opaque fabrics. It even includes a
section dedicated to Pure Screen and one to Graphic Shades. The binder
format, allows you to easily remove swatches to better match colour and
check openness. It contains a plethora of details on fabric
specifications, hem and valance options. Convenient icons on each
fabric label show recommended usage of all the fabrics, green
certification, and fire retardancy. The
Artisan Collection consists of a two binder set, one containing 80
different fabrics attractively presented in waterfall format, arranged
by the following characteristics: translucent, transparent, opaque,
textured, and printed. The second binder consists of a collection
of Braids and Pulls - in a spectacular presentation with numerous
photographs to provide inspiration of possibilities. The collection
is intended to give creative freedom to the designer or client to mix
and match braids, pulls and fabrics, to create a truly unique look to
compliment their spaces. The photo is of the new 'Paper' fabric
from the Sun Glow 2010 Fabric Catalogue, Neo operation, and glass pull
from the Artisan Collection (to match the homeowner's chandelier).
If you would like to learn more about either collection, please

News from Phifer The new
SW7300 (Blackout) and SW7350 (light filtering) were introduced by
Phifer after our fabric book was issued, you can request a fabric
card. These fabrics offer a sophisticated tone on tone pattern.
Fabrics safe for the outdoors - All the Phifer Sheerweaves are now
certified to be used outside except for infinity, SW7000, SW7100 and
SW7500.
Greenguard cerification now applies to ALL Phifer fabrics.
The certificates can be found on our website.
SW5000 - These fabrics have great colours and textures and have
become very popular. We want to stress that we do not recommend
the use of a wrapped bottom bar on this series. The texture which
makes the fabric interesting causes the wrap to be uneven resulting in
waviness. Order these fabrics with accubar - unwrapped. |
